An exam needs more than factual correctness

Review source-based exam items
Map the selected PDF sections to the syllabus or learning outcomes you intend to assess.
Draft questions with explicit command words and all required values, extracts or diagrams.
Write the expected answer and marking points, considering reasonable alternative methods and wording.
Have another teacher review the paper where practical, then proofread the final student copy separately from the answer key.
Put it into practice
Example: specify the explanation required
“Explain respiration” leaves the expected scope unclear. “Explain why breathing rate increases during exercise, referring to energy demand” identifies the relationship being assessed. Assign marks to the reasoning you expect, rather than relying on the length of the answer alone.
