How to Turn Lesson Learning Into a Quiz Game
Turn the practice or retrieval part of a lesson into a game, rather than trying to replace every teaching activity. Select concepts that can be checked with objective questions, then connect the game to explanation, discussion or written work where those are needed.
Not every learning goal fits automatic scoring
A game can check vocabulary, recognise a method or apply a short rule. It cannot by itself show the quality of a long argument, an original design or a fully explained proof. Keep those forms of learning visible in the wider lesson.
Choose the right slice of the lesson
Identify which knowledge students need to retrieve or apply repeatedly during practice.
Write objective questions for that portion, with explanations that address common mistakes.
Keep complex reasoning or creative work in a separate activity with an appropriate review method.
Place the game at a useful point in the lesson and use the results or discussion to reconnect it to the main learning goal.
Put it into practice
Example: a lesson on persuasive writing
Use a game to identify techniques in short extracts, then ask students to write and justify their own paragraph. The game rehearses recognition, while the written task checks purposeful use. Neither task needs to pretend to measure the other's learning.

- Avoid adding a game that does not help students practise the intended content.
- Do not describe every topic as automatically becoming a custom simulation or a new game world.
