Parent chat for teachers

Reach a parent without handing out your number.

Parent chat lets you message the parents of the students in your batches from the dashboard you already teach in. Look up a student and the parents they have linked appear, or type a parent’s email if you have it. Every conversation is about one child, so a family with two children in your classes has two threads with you, each with its own history.

Why it helps

A note about a missed test reaches the parent the same evening, in a thread you can both find again next month.

01

Found through the student, not a phone book

Search for a student in any of your batches and Parent chat lists the parents that student has linked to their account. If a parent has given you their email, type that instead. You never have to collect or keep phone numbers yourself.

02

One child, one thread

Each conversation is tied to a particular child. A parent with two children in your classes has two separate threads with you, so a message about one is never mixed up with news about the other.

03

Say it the way it needs saying

Send text, a photo of the marked page, a document or a voice note. Messages arrive as you send them, and unread counts show which parents are waiting on a reply from you.

04

Close it when the term ends

You can close a thread, which stops further messages in it, and reopen it later. A parent can only be reached while their child is linked to them and still in your batch, so a conversation ends naturally when the student moves on.

From first step to follow-through

Three steps from idea to class.

  1. 1

    Find the parent

Open Parent chat, search for the student and pick the parent from the accounts linked to that child. If you already have the parent’s email, enter it directly.

  2. 2

    Write about that child

Start the thread with a short message, a photo or a voice note. The parent sees it in Contact the teacher on their own dashboard, under that child’s name.

  3. 3

    Keep the thread going

Replies arrive live, with an unread count against the parent’s name. Close the thread when it has run its course, and reopen it if there is more to say.

Good to know before you start.

Which parents can I message?

Parents who have linked their account to a student in one of your batches, with that student’s approval. Parent chat finds them when you search the student, or you can enter a parent’s email directly. If the child leaves your batch or the link is removed, that parent can no longer be reached from Parent chat.

Does a parent see my Learning Chat with their child?

No. Parent chat and Learning Chat are separate. What you and a student say in Learning Chat stays between the two of you, and a parent thread is between you and the parent, about that child.

Can I stop a conversation?

Closing a thread blocks further messages in it for both sides. You can reopen it whenever you want to continue, and the earlier messages are still there.

What can I send?

Text, photos, documents and voice notes. When a photo of the marked page says more than a paragraph would, send the photo.
