How to Create a Question Paper With Answers
Maintain one reviewed set of questions and answers, then produce the student paper and teacher copy from it. This reduces mismatches caused by editing two documents separately. Decide whether answers are for marking, worked revision or student self-checking before sharing them.
Different answer copies serve different purposes
A marking key can be concise, but a revision solution should explain the method. Students taking a test should receive neither by accident. Clear filenames and a final preview matter as much as the correctness of the answers themselves.
Prepare matching versions
Write or generate the questions with their expected answers and marks in one working draft.
Review calculations, alternative responses and the explanation needed for written questions.
Produce a student version without answers and a teacher version with the matching numbering and version label.
Open or print-preview both outputs, checking page breaks, visible answer indicators and any explanation accidentally left in the student copy.
Put it into practice
Example: a worked revision answer
For a two-step equation, the teacher key may identify the value of x and marking points. A student revision copy should show the operations on both sides and a substitution check. Choose the level of explanation according to how the answer copy will be used.

- Recheck numbering after removing or reordering questions.
- Do not assume a filename such as “student copy” means the answer key was actually excluded.
